Taylor Claims First Solo Win of 2022

9th August, 2022
By Ryan Jones

Scott Taylor has won in Trophy Class for round two of Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS at Queensland Raceway, also claiming a podium in Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge the same weekend.

Competing in two categories that often ran back to back across the weekend, Taylor had to be adept at switching between two different cars that shared similar ergonomics. The Porsche 997 GT3-R was raced in GT World Challenge and the Porsche 991 Gen 2 in Sprint Challenge.

Out of the gates Taylor was immediately fast, finishing fifth in Pro-Am and 14th outright in a 25 car field in combined practice times in Sprint Challenge. In GT World Challenge, Taylor only completed one of the two practice session but was comfortably second in his class.

Qualifying solidified the belief that Taylor could have a strong weekend, as he put himself fifth in class for Sprint Challenge and shaved three seconds off his practice time to remain second in the 997.

Across the three races in Sprint Challenge Taylor achieved finishes of fourth, fifth and then third in the Endurance Cup race. In GT World Challenge where there was just a pair of one hour races, Taylor came home in second on Saturday before winning on Sunday, doing enough to claim overall class victory for the round.

“Going racing in our own backyard, we really wanted to do a good job this weekend and I certainly enjoyed myself in two cars that I love racing,” said Taylor.

“It was good weather conditions for the most part and a great environment around me as well. I was able to really focus on my driving this weekend. A big credit to Aaron Tebb from Waltec Motorsport and the Ashley Seward Motorsport crew for doing a superb job preparing our GT and Sprint Challenge cars. Having Alex Davison on the radio as well was key.”

“We’ve definitely turned a corner in terms of my driving but it’s important we don’t get static, and we keep making progress. Sandown will be the next test, as we jump back in the 992 in Carrera Cup.”

Scott Taylor will be back on track at Sandown Raceway from August 19-21, where he competes in Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup aboard the Porsche 992 for Ashley Seward Motorsport.
