Scott Taylor primed for huge Bathurst 1000 weekend

Scott Taylor is looking forward to heading back to Mount Panorama as part of the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship this weekend.

The Porsche stalwart is no stranger to big moments at the famous Bathurst, NSW circuit – from class victories and pole positions in the 12 Hour endurance race to bone-breaking accidents – Taylor has experienced the highs and lows of Australia’s most rewarding and unforgiving race circuits.

At this event 12 months ago, Taylor endured a heavy hit in the V8 SuperUtes class, puncturing a lung, breaking ribs and was momentarily knocked unconscious in a multi-car incident at Reid Park at the top of the mountain.

That was Taylor’s last race in a SuperUtes, but even a scare as big as that will not stop the veteran from competing in his Porsche sportscar at Mount Panorama.

“The Bathurst 1000 weekend is always special, and this weekend is no different,” said Taylor.

“At this circuit last year, it was one to forget in the SuperUte. I was really knocked around, but that’s exactly what Bathurst gives you. It’s a high commitment track, and there’s an equal level of risk and reward associated with it.

“Bathurst bites, and that was an incident that really took a chunk out of me.

“But I love the people at Bathurst. The track is amazing and the event is huge – the most famous in the country.

“It’s an iconic sporting festival, and fore me, it’s wonderful to be a part of.”

The 2026 Carrera Cup season marks the full-time return for Taylor to Carrera Cup, and while it has been a month since he sat in the car, he is confident that his recent miles at the Bathurst 12 Hour support arc e in a GT3-spec Porsche will put him in good stead.

“I’ve had plenty of miles in the car this year and I feel really comfortable in it,” he said.

“For me, there was no need to test between events. We’ll just go and enjoy the atmosphere, meet the race fans and enjoy ourselves.”

While Taylor’s presence will be felt on the track, some of his pride and joys will be on display around the mountain precinct.

His 2018 Bathurst 1000 winning Commodore, driven by Craig Lowndes and Steven Richards, will be on show at the museum, as well as a couple of trucks that will be hard to miss!

Track action starts on Thursday, with a Carrera Cup race every day from Friday to Sunday.
