Scott Taylor has ended his 2022 Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup series campaign with a personal best fifth place finish in race two on the streets of the Gold Coast.

A nice departure from previous rounds saw a baking hot weekend and its fair share of drama with almost all cars needing new splitters and various spare parts over the weekend. For Taylor though it was smooth sailing as he left the weekend with nothing but a scratch on his car.

An interrupted qualifying session limited Taylor’s opportunities to lower his lap time as he built into the session, putting him tenth on the grid in Pro-Am. It was a tricky opening race, with the field pushing extremely hard and setting lap times good enough to challenge the qualifying efforts. Taylor finished the race where he started in tenth.

Overnight improvements after debriefs with Alex Davison made a monumental difference in the Endurance Cup race on Sunday morning. Taylor improved on his previous best lap by over a second, with the increase in pace working hand in hand with Taylor’s ability to stay out of trouble as he rose the timing sheets to sit in fourth for a large majority of the race. A late move saw Taylor fall to fifth which was still his best result of the season, eclipsing a sixth place in Townsville.

Race three was filled with further drama as Taylor picked the perfect path after a fast start through a partially blocked track to vault into third place. Final race antics played out up and down the field and after running third for half the race, Taylor came home in ninth as he prioritised finishing with a clean car.

“Another good weekend for me, improving my times across the event, staying out of trouble and ending up as one of the only guys without a visit to the parts truck,” said Taylor.

“It was a high-risk environment with the proximity to the walls and we really focused on minimising the risks we took in order to enjoy a clean weekend. Race two just highlighted the importance of staying clean.

“There are drivers out there who are willing to take an incredibly high level of commitment through the races but sometimes it’s to much, no matter how well you’re driving; and we saw that in the race with so many people retiring.

“I go racing to enjoy myself and improve my understanding of racing and we ticked those boxes this weekend.

“I’m not done for the year; I’ll be taking the GT Porsche out for a run in Adelaide at the reinstated 500. Last time I raced that car we picked up a victory so looking forward to seeing how we go there.”

The 2022 Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship is wrapped up for another year, a strong result finishing in the top 5 in class, Scott Taylor will be in action again at the Adelaide 500 from November 1-4 in Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia.
