Morris and STM, Podium Finish in Taupō
23rd April, 2024Round 2 of the 2024 Carrera Cup at Taupō International Motorsport Park wrapped up with an impressive podium finish for Nash Morris and the Scott Taylor Motorsport team.
Saturday’s consistent rain created challenging driving and track conditions, visibility limited by the combination of rain, cloud cover, and spray. Nash Morris racked up 2 first time experiences simultaneously driving the Porsche in the rain at Taupō.
Morris maneuvered the course with skill in the wet conditions qualifying fifth and third place respectively.
A riveting race one resulted in the STM 222 car finishing fourth in the field of eighteen. “The outcome of today’s race could have been very different given the precarious conditions; Nash retained his focus and displayed skill in the wet” Scott said.
Races two and three on Sunday morning resulted in third-place finishes for the STM team and Scott commented that “Nash’s defensive driving skill enabled him to maintain his margin on Dylan O’Keeffe in race three.”
“Carrera Cup really excelled this round with the collective show of respect and quality driving throughout the entire weekends’ racing” Scott commented. “As always New Zealand has put on a brilliant weekend in every aspect, from the volunteers and facilities at the track, right through to the hospitality and entertainment in the region. It’s great to be back here, we love the way the locals really get behind their sport and show their support and we’ve met some interesting and wonderful people this week.”
Finishing the weekend in third place overall, securing a trophy along with no penalties has catapulted Nash Morris from fourteenth to seventh position in the Equity-One Pro and third in the Michelin Junior 2024 Standings and his first podium in Carrera Cup.
Round three of the 2024 Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship, the Bter Darwin Triple Crown at Hidden Valley Northern Territory, will take place on June 14th-16th
