Competing Against World’s Best A Big Confidence Boost for Taylor
7th June, 2022Fresh off his class victory at the Bathurst 12 Hour with Ashley Seward Motorsport, Scott Taylor heads to Winton for round two of the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship.
At the 12 Hour the team contested a Scott Taylor Motorsport owned Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Gen 2), the predecessor to this year’s Carrera Cup challenger. Claiming a convincing class victory with first in every session from practice one to the race.
Taylor’s last competitive event at the upcoming Winton circuit came in the 2018 Australian GT Trophy Series where he earned two podiums including a race win.
Conveniently Winton is also the home test track for Ashley Seward Motorsport, resulting in a large amount of testing miles max experience at the venue for Taylor and the team.
In the season opening Australian Grand Prix round, Taylor recorded a steady improvement over the weekend which culminated in a top 20 overall finish in the final race of the weekend after starting the weekend with 29th in qualifying.
“Jumping from the older car to the new one, there’s not a whole lot similarities. The new 992 is almost like a GT car, just without the power and such, it drives much more like that than the older style of car,” said Taylor.
“I was a bit nervous about the new car at the GP as a few people are, but we have to come up to the level of the car because it’s a very good race car and we need to be able to drive to that level.”
“Being at Bathurst and competing with the world’s best drivers is a pretty good way to build some confidence.”
