Taylor Still Coming to Terms with New Cup Car

Round two of the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship has come and gone with some disappointment from Scott Taylor as he struggled to find his feet on what was often a cold and slippery Winton Raceway.

Qualifying took place on a treacherously cold track, made worse by the slim 10 minutes available to generate tyre temperature and set a representative lap. Scott was able to qualify 12th in class, one spot higher in the field than he had achieved across practices one and two.

Race one turned out to be the smoothest of the weekend for Scott, despite not generating his best result of the round, as he finished 11th in class. The quest to continue improving his lap time was hampered somewhat as he fell a lap down and spent a lot of time off line in the slippery marbles trying to stay out of the leader’s way.

The second race was more positive as it gave Scott a ninth place finish in class, beating both his teammates in the process. However much like his Ashley Seward Motorsport teammates, Scott was the victim of some aggressive driving in the 25 lap endurance race. At one stage the #222 was running seventh in class before being turned around by a fellow competitor.

Scott finished the third and final race in 13th, after struggling for some early race pace and then being caught by the leaders which put Scott out on the dirty line once more.

After two rounds Scott is 11th in the Pro-Am Standings. Round three of the 2022 seasons sees the category venture north into the heat of Darwin at Hidden Valley Raceway.

“I’m still trying to come to terms with this new car, I’m not gelling with it to nicely so far,” said Taylor.

“I expected a bit more from myself this round, I’ve been to Winton before and gone a lot better than I did this weekend.”

“Race two was a little unfortunate, I got turned around and then I ended up so far back with the leaders catching me and I was off the racing line in the marbles plus there was water and fluid all over the road. There was really zero grip for me for a lot of that race.”

“We’ll put a plan in place for more training and some more sim work, we can do some more work in other cars before we get to Darwin as well.”

“A bit of hard work and analysing what needs to change and we’ll be more in the right place when we get to Darwin.”
