Scott Taylor Elated With Bend Porsche Performance

Scott Taylor is on a high after enjoying one of his best weekends of racing in Round 2 of the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup at the OTR Bend SuperSprint on the weekend.

After qualifying sixth (in the Pro-Am Class) on a wet track, Taylor survived a carnage-laden race to improve to third in race one.

“With the weather conditions the way they were, I sensed there was going to be some drama in that race, so I prioritised staying out of trouble and avoiding the incidents,” Taylor said.

“A lot of cars came back to the pits with extensive damage but my car didn’t have a scratch on it. A big congratulations to my team-mates Dean Cook and Geoff Emery, who finished first and second – it was sensational for the Ashley Seward Motorsport team to lock out the podium.”

The second race featured a longer, 45-minute format which placed an emphasis on management. After a couple of Safety Car interventions, Taylor came home seventh in the Pro-Am class.

“There were some good battles in that race, and I was happy with my pace,” Taylor said.

“I pulled a good gap on the cars behind and wasn’t too far off the cars in front.”

The third and final race was a similar story, Taylor again coming home in seventh position. Overall, he was satisfied with the weekend’s efforts.

“I’m stoked with how the weekend panned out, the car is in one piece and we’ve definitely made some progress relative to the other Pro-Am competitors,” Taylor said.

“I’ve moved ahead of drivers I was battling with previously and I’m now closer to the front-runners in the class.”

“I was especially happy with our speed in the wet conditions. If there’s any area for improvement, we probably need to improve our practice form, so we’re operating from a higher base once we get to qualifying. But that’s something we’ll work on for the upcoming rounds.”

Taylor’s performances at The Bend have elevated him to equal fifth in the Carrera Cup Pro-Am standings ahead of the third round at Townsville, 9-11 July.
