The Dunlop Super2 Series reaches a critical stage in the 2025 title at Townsville, with recent race winner Nash Morris squarely in the hunt for the crown.

Driving the Scott Taylor Motorsport-backed Tickford Racing Ford Mustang, the second-generation racer scored his first win in the development Supercars Series in the last round at Symmons Plains in Tasmania, propelling the Gold Coast ace to second place in the series.

The 22-year-old now finds himself in an intense three-way Tickford Racing fight, with team-mate Rylan Gray leading the way on 492 points, Morris just 46 points adrift in second, while Ruben Goodall – the team’s newest driver is third, 24 points behind Morris.

While the fight for the series win is poised to be between the Tickford team-mates, Morris says that the squad is focused on achieving the best results together, which is helping them drive forward.

The re-introduction of Mark Winterbottom to Tickford’s Supercars endurance driver line-up has also helped, with the former Bathurst 1000 and Supercars Championship winner mentoring the Tickford Super2 drivers.

While Morris is looking forward to getting back to north Queensland, STM team owner Scott Taylor is gearing up for his first run at the Townsville street track in his Ford Ranger V8 SuperUte.

The veteran racer has been getting more and more comfortable in the V8 SuperUte, and while he is aiming at moving up the grid, he is most looking forward to seeing Morris and the Tickford battle unfold in Super2.

Track action in Townsville starts on Friday, with racing getting underway for both Super2 and the V8 SuperUtes on Saturday.

“It’s cool to be heading to Townsville again,” said Taylor.

“We have a lot going up there, with both the Super2 and the V8 SuperUte for Scott. And the Norwell team has some Toyota GR Cup cars there as well, so there will be no shortage of interest from our guys.

“The win at Symmons was really good, but you can’t get too confident. I’ve got three strong team-mates to push me along but hopefully we can all push each other and get some good results.

“We all work well together. The Tickford cars were fast when they last raced here in Gen2. We have some pretty good data and set-ups and we need to use that to our advantage.

“Mark Winterbottom has been a really big help. He has no biase to anyone, so we are pretty fortunate to have him in our corner. He has driven all the tracks, he is a Supercars champion and Bathurst winner. He is a very good knowledge bank.”

“Townsville is a place we love going to. I’ve raced all sorts of things there, and this weekend I get to tick off driving a SuperUte,” said Taylor.

“It’s a really great track. It has got a bit of everything, and it’s a good spirited event too – Like Adelaide and Darwin. Passionate people who love their car racing.

“The SuperUtes class is maturing. The racing is close and spectacular. Inside the car, they have a bit going on, but it’s a fun category. It’s got 24 cars, and it is growing.

“I’ll be kept busy in the Utes, but I’m looking forward to hanging over the pit wall and watching Nash in Super2. He tested at Winton recently, and with the help of Frosty at Tickford, you can see that he is now taking big steps forward.

“And this is the critical moment for Nash and all of those Tickford guys, because it’s their time to shine. There’s no hiding now.

“For Nash, he is 22 years old and he knows that he has to perform and needs to be in the lead pack.”
