STM ready to launch V8 seasons in Sydney

Scott Taylor Motorsport is eager to get its racing seasons underway at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend, with the popular Queensland-based squad entered in two of the popular V8-powered championships.

Nash Morris continues under the STM banner in 2025, switching from a successful season in Porsche Carrera Cup to the Dunlop Super2 Series.

It’s a category and style of racing that Morris has vast experience in, having raced in Super3 in 2022 and Super2 in 2023 with his own family-run car.

This year, the son of Bathurst 1000 winner Paul ‘The Dude’ Morris, will link with Tickford Racing in Super2, part of a four-car team alongside Rylan Gray, Lochie Dalton and Reuben Goodall.

Morris will drive the ex-James Courtney Tickford Mustang, last seen in the hands of Brad Vaughan in Super2 last year.

Morris says he is looking forward to the season ahead.

“It’s going to be awesome to back in Super2,” said Nash Morris.

“After one year off racing the Porsche, I’m can’t wait to get back into the Supercar and racing with Tickford.

“The biggest advantage that I have found so far is having team-mates. When we ran our own Supercar a couple of years ago, it was a family run thing, and we had a heap of fun that year, but this will be different. Driving for a quality team like Tickford, with Scott by my side, it’s going to be an awesome year.”

Joining Morris in the famous black and green STM colours is team owner Taylor, who will continue in the Yokohama V8 SuperUte Series.

After joining the series in the later rounds last year, Taylor will form a quasi-two car V8 SuperUte team with Paul Morris, who will make his full-time SuperUtes debut this year.

Taylor and Morris are using economies of scale to assist each other with their SuperUtes endeavours, including logistics at and away from the track, while also enjoying the benefits of data acquisition that only a two-car team can bring.

“The Dude and I drove together in the Porsche in the GT series last year, and we just like hanging out together,” Taylor said.

“Paul is just that guy who keeps on going to motor races, so we’re trying to pluck him out and keep his wheels spinning. The V8 SuperUtes is a slower pace than what he has been used to, and it’d be a harder thing to do I guess because Paul has won Bathurst 1000, the 12 Hour plus lots of other things, so the SuperUtes will be a lot of fun.

“I think he’s appreciating he’s slowing down, we get older, though Paul and I are enjoying each other’s company, but he’s also got all the technical know-how, so I love having the access to lean on that. That’s what happens at Norwell, people are taught how to drive and I’ll learn a lot from Paul during this year.

“It’s a two-car team using the latest Ford Rangers, which are still in a development phase and the relationship with Paul is great. Not only is it in the form of driver coaching for me, but the infrastructure Paul has at Norwell and the team will run the cars.”

Practice for both Super2 and the SuperUtes starts on Friday. All practice, qualifying and race sessions will be broadcast live via Foxtel and Kayo.
