STM CONFIRMS ALL-STAR 12 HOUR RETURN IN 2025
5th December, 2024Following its two rounds of Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS earlier this year, Scott Taylor Motorsport will again mount a serious attack on the Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour.
Scott Taylor and Paul Morris took multiple wins in the Trophy Class Porsche 911 GT3R (Type 997), but the long-time supporter of Australia’s international endurance race will once again target victory in 2025.
The Porsche will be replaced by a Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo to be shared by two-time Bathurst 12 Hour winner Craig Lowndes alongside Tickford Racing teammates Cam Waters and Thomas Randle.
The trio combined in the 2024 event where the team led 11 laps on the way to seventh at the finish, just 8s off the lead.
Team Owner Taylor is eager to bring the band back together for another tilt for victory.
“Team STM is proud to be once again contending for the 2025 Bathurst 12 Hour,” said Taylor.
“We thank Craig, Cam and Thomas for choosing to be part of our great team and of course appreciate Tickford and Red Bull – Triple Eight giving us access to these incredible talents.
“Behind the scenes there is an enormous group of dedicated people helping to bring this campaign together who include, but certainly not limited to amazing people such as Ash Seward Motorsport, Rebecca Taylor, Lara Lowndes, team STM and the list goes on and on of incredible people, can I say now a sincere ‘thank you’.
“We are proud to once again partner with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia to bring further awareness and stimulate conversation amongst our community on this topic, please remember to ‘Get Checked’.
“Remember to bring your cowboy hats everyone as we can’t wait to see you all back to the mountain!”
Just like in its last campaign, the Mercedes-AMG will feature support from the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and this has extended to it being the official charity of the event.
Racing legend Lowndes is keen to add a third Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour after success in 2014 and 2017.
“We proved this year that we had all the pieces of the puzzle together to challenge for victory,” Lowndes reflected.
“Our approach was spot on and to see the #222 car leading the race was great for everyone, especially Scott and Rebecca who put so much into the sport each year. I really enjoyed teaming up with Cam and Thomas last year and we are heading back for a second year having proven we are contenders.
“It’s a tough race with great competition and all the usual challenges Bathurst throws up, but it’s exciting to go there knowing you are a shot at winning.
“To continue to raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia is great. It’s a cause close to my heart and each year we are fortunate to make an impact on people’s lives by raising funds and awareness by reminding men to ‘get checked’.”
Waters will make his fourth attempt in the race and is keen to build on the learnings of 2024.
“I’m excited to be teaming up with Craig, Tom and STM for the Bathurst 12 Hour,” Waters said.
“We had a lot of fun in 2024 and learned a heap that we’ll use going into this one.
“The team’s great and the drivers are fast so I feel that we have a good shot at winning it.”
Randle is aiming to bring the win back to Australia.
“I’m wrapped to be back to the Bathurst 12 Hour again with the STM crew and pairing up with Lowndesy and Cam. It was such an awesome weekend this year and so much fun with the whole team at ASM, STM and also supporting the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
“We had a blast on and off track this year and we’ll be going back with a more competitive package,” stated Randle.
“It’s such an amazing race to be part of. It’s going to be a fun weekend and I’m keen to get back behind the wheel for a few test days before we get up there in January.
“We want to take on the internationals and are heading there to win – let’s see what we can do.”
STM enjoys a long and successful history at Bathurst including contending for the outright victory in 2017 and a class win in the 2022 edition.
The Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour is the opening round for the Intercontinental GT Challenge on January 31-February 2.
