Steady Progress Continues in Townsville for Taylor

11th July, 2022
By Ryan Jones

Scott Taylor has achieved his best result of the season, with a fifth in class at the end of race one, followed by a ninth in race two and seventh in race three in Townsville.

The story of 2022 so far for Taylor has been his conversion to a new driving style, designed to unlock more pace from his driving and get him closer to the competition in Pro-Am in Carrera Cup. Taylor started the weekend on the front foot with a strong showing in practice which saw him right in the mix of the top 10 times.

In qualifying Scott put himself 12th on the grid, his delta to the front of Pro-Am an improvement on the previous round in Darwin. Race one saw a carpark at turn two which collected a large portion of the field, Taylor’s keen eye for staying out of trouble paid off as he safely navigated the incident and rocketed up to fifth in class where he finished the race. The Endurance Cup race saw Taylor fall back to ninth, but he showed good speed as he set a lap faster than qualifying. In race three some crafty racing allowed Taylor to move back forward and finish in seventh.

“Another fantastic weekend of racing, the coaching I’m getting is really paying off,” said Taylor.

“I’m starting to take it towards the group of cars in front, there’s a gap to them that I reckon I’ve about halved since the start of the season. I’m obviously not targeting the likes of Geoff Emery, but the guys like Belford, Miles and Janes – I feel like I can get up there and race those blokes.”

“The hardest part now is we’re trying to find tenths of a second, it was big chunks before when we first changed my driving style but now it’s about refinement and those smaller margins. The best part is that I’m really starting to learn and trust the car which is allowing me to push it a lot harder without sending myself in the fence.”

“We didn’t damage the car, stayed out of trouble, finished every race and I had fun. That’s all I can ask for, so already looking forward to the next one.”

Round five of the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship will take place at The Bend Motorsport Park from July 29-31.
