Scott Taylor to make Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia return

Scott Taylor has confirmed he will make a return to the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS field for next month’s round at Queensland Raceway.

A long-time competitor and supporter of local motorsport, Taylor will be on board his venerable GT Trophy Class Porsche 997 GT3R for the series’ third round of the season and has called upon Bathurst Triple Crown winner Paul Morris to co-drive alongside him.

The combination of Taylor and the Porsche isn’t unfamiliar after he raced it twice during the 2022 season, first in his home event at Queensland Raceway and then the VAILO Adelaide 500.

Success came to Taylor in both rounds when he took a GT Trophy Class race win in Queensland and a podium result in Adelaide.

Taylor has since dabbled in Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, Combined Sedans and featured as part of a Aussie Racing Cars field in Townsville earlier this month.

Round 3 of Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS will be held at Queensland Raceway on August 2-4 as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries.

“I love that car,” said Taylor.

“It just has so much mechanical grip, it’s old school, it’s loud, it’s everything, but I can feel that car 10 times over what I can feel in any late-model aero model.

“It is on a rise, but categories in Australia have their ebbs and flows. GT has had a less favourable couple of years, but in more recent years it’s had bigger grids and I think the community is back.

“It’s pretty cool to have all the different brands and models, it’s about how it’s presented, which I think has been done a lot better in its current format with everyone enjoying it.

“I love GT racing.”
