Scott Taylor Motorsport shine in Sydney

Scott Taylor Motorsport was back in action over the weekend with Nash Morris, Paul Morris and Scott Taylor himself all featuring in the Thrifty Sydney 500 at Sydney Motorsport Park.

With Nash moving up into the Dunlop Super2 Series following a successful stint in the Porsche Carrera Cup, it was a solid opening round of the season for the young Queenslander during the category’s two outings.

While the final timesheets in Friday’s two practice sessions had Morris sitting a bit off the outright pace in P16 and P15, he certainly found his groove when it mattered in Qualifying – climbing into the top 10 during Saturday’s session.

Racing with the assistance of Tickford Motorsport, Morris utilised the experience of working with the team by capitalising on his impressive P7 in qualifying and moving up three spots to finish in fourth place.

A challenging Sunday in Qualifying saw Morris end up 14th during the session, however he was able to replicate his efforts from the day before and navigate his way up several places to cross the line comfortably in 10th place in his Ford Mustang.

The two top 10 finishes saw Nash end the weekend sixth on the standings and less than 50 points off the top.

As for Taylor and Paul – the two experienced campaigners were contesting the Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series during the weekend with the four races making up a busy schedule.

For most of the weekend, it was Paul who led the way throughout the category’s season-opening event- finishing Friday’s first outing in 14th overall before improving to 11th in race two on Saturday and climbing a further two spots in the round’s third race.

Paul secured a third consecutive top-10 finish in Sunday’s final race after reaching the chequered flag in 10th in what was a difficult event.

Taylor had a similar weekend to Paul during the four races, improving with each race on Friday and Saturday. Starting off with P20 on Friday evening, Taylor ended up picking up a few places in race two to finish 16th before enduring a challenging outing in race three with P18.

Despite the tough round, Taylor bounced back beautifully in the final race to secure his best finish of the weekend with 14th overall – capping off a decent weekend for the team.

All three drivers return to action in a couple of months with both the Dunlop Super2 Series and Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series’ hosting their second rounds at Symmons Plains on May 1-4.

“It was a great first weekend in Super2 with Scott Taylor Motorsport and we had a great result.

“Great fun with fourth and I moved up to two spots in the second race, so overall pretty good. Looking forward to going down south to the cold Tasmania weather for our next round.

“Can’t thank everyone at Tickford enough for their support, as well as Scott Taylor and all my other partners who helped me get here.”

I started fairly slow and had some electoral problems in the car in the first race where we lost power steering and all the electronics that we needed, so that wasn’t a good start,” Taylor said.

“Second race felt really good. I was really comfortable with that but I made a rookie error which wasn’t good, but in the fourth, I felt really raced and for the first time, I felt like I was actually a race car driver in the race, so it’s a whole lot of fun.”

“It was pretty challenging. Had to work a fair bit to find some speed as the Ford Ranger is the slowest thing at a straight line, but I did nothing too bad through the whole weekend,” Paul said.
