Scott Taylor Motorsport set for busy weekend in Townsville
4th July, 2024Scott Taylor Motorsport will have a strong presence at this weekend’s NTI Townsville 500 with entries across multiple support categories in the highly anticipated Repco Supercars Championship event.
The two drivers flying the Scott Taylor Motorsport flag in Far North Queensland will be team owner Scott Taylor in the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series, and rising star Nash Morris in the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia.
With Aussie Racing Cars entering its third round of the season, this weekend will be just Taylor’s third appearance in the past 12 months, having previously competed in the series at Queensland Raceway in April and Townsville late last year.
Although Taylor completed just one of the three races in Ipswich earlier this year, the veteran enjoyed a more consistent outing at Reid Park last year with four finishes from four races.
As for Morris, the Queenslander enters the round having had a busy 2024 thus far due to his regular commitments in Porsche Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Australia and the Trico Trans Am Series.
The talented driver is enjoying a strong season behind the wheel in both series, as he currently sits eighth in the Carrera Cup with a pair of podiums to his name, and ninth in Trans Am, courtesy of a race win and another podium.
The visit to Townsville will mark Morris’ first appearance in the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia since completing a full campaign in 2023 and finishing sixth overall, before making the step up to Carrera Cup this year.
Both drivers will have busy weekends in their respective categories, with Taylor to tackle four races in the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series schedule, while Morris will contest three outings, including the Jim Richards Endurance race on Sunday morning.
The NTI Townsville 500 will take place at Reid Park in Townsville on July 5-7.

“We are heading back to Townsville because I love racing there. It’s such a fantastic circuit and such a fantastic place to visit,” said Taylor.
“Along with Darwin and Adelaide, Townsville is a real community type race event where you get the die-hards there which is fantastic.
“Obviously Nash is getting the chance to top up his Carrera Cup attributes by racing in the Sprint Challenge, and I get to race with my mate Paul Morris in Aussie Racing Cars.
“With a field of 40, it should be a ton of fun but massive – competitors going five-wide around corners will be exciting.
“I like the category – it’s a super community and that’s why I have supported Aussie Racing Cars for many years.”

“I am looking forward to this weekend and getting behind the wheel of a cool car and on the Supercars calendar with Scott Taylor Motorsport,” said Morris.
“We looked at the calendar and thought this round would be a good one to do in the Sprint Challenge as it was the opportunity to drive a cool car, on a cool track and against some talented young drivers.
“Townsville is definitely one of my favourite tracks in the country. It’s a hybrid track with a good mix of street and race circuit elements.
“It’s amazing to have the backing of a great team in Scott Taylor Motorsport. It’s pretty cool for them to believe in me, so I am looking forward to making the most of this opportunity.
“I will obviously want to do the best I can, but if you go into a race weekend expecting to win, you usually don’t, so I will remain humble. I am just excited to race.”
