Scott Taylor Motorsport completes giant Darwin effort

4th July, 2024
By Grant Rowley

Scott Taylor Motorsport has completed a huge event at Hidden Valley Raceway – an event, a week-long in the making.

In what has become tradition, team owner Scott Taylor completed the journey from his Gold Coast-base to Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin, hauling his road train to the event.

And getting right behind the Indigenous Round celebrations, Taylor’s team featured artwork by local Daniel Evans on Nash Morris’ Porsche, not only on the Carrera Cup car he drove across the weekend, but on the team truck and merchandise also.

Qualifying ninth for the opening race, Morris went onto score 17th in the opener after being involved in an incident, before improving to 11th in Race 2 and completed the weekend in ninth to end the weekend on a high.

Morris now focuses on the next round for the Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship on July 19-21 at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Scott Taylor himself also competed in the Combined Sedans class, racing his tribute A9X Torana in the colours of motorsport icons Bob Jane and Ian ‘Pete’ Geogehan.

The Hidden Valley race meeting was the first for the Torana, Taylor enjoyed two clean races early in the weekend until he was the innocent victim in a clash with a Commodore in the final race.

The next time STM hits the track in Carrera Cup will be in Round 4 of the Porsche championship at Sydney Motorsport Park where the field will compete under lights.

“It was my first time at this track in a high-speed car, I’ve driven in an Excel and a Stadium Truck here, and the Porsche is pretty different,” said Morris.

“It definitely took me a little while to get in the groove as this joint is a tricky little track, but we finally got there in the last race.

“I just want to say a big thank you to Scotty Taylor Motorsport as it’s a big operation behind the scenes with everything he’s brought up here to Darwin. Scott doesn’t get thanked enough for what he’s done here for the fans.

“The Porsche, his A9X and the road train is something awesome to look at and it’s a pretty cool initiative.”
