Scott Taylor has enjoyed a positive outing at Queensland Raceway over the weekend after competing in both the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia and Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS.

While the Queenslander experienced plenty of track time and learnings across both categories, he enjoyed a successful haul of results in Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia.

Paired up with the ever-experienced Paul Morris in the team’s Porsche 911 GT3-R 997, the duo showed plenty of progress throughout the category’s two one-hour races.

Racing under the picturesque sunset on Saturday afternoon for the opening race, Taylor and Morris were able to navigate their way to a top 10 finish, crossing the chequered flag in ninth.

In what was an entertaining, yet dramatic outing, the pair also found themselves in second place at one point, before eventually settling for an impressive P9 outright placing and Trophy Class honours.

It was a far more challenging Sunday for the pair, as they finished the second outing in 15th overall and with a 15-second penalty.

Despite not finishing as high as Saturday night, Taylor and Morris still picked up a Trophy Class podium – crossing the line in second place.

Earlier in the weekend, Taylor completed a quick-fire Porsche schedule, as all three of its races were run across Friday and Saturday.

In Friday’s first race of the round, Taylor was involved in an incident with fellow Ashley Seward Motorsport teammates that saw him forced to retire from the race.

On Saturday, Taylor hovered around the midfield to pick up P14 in the morning before wrapping up the weekend with P13 in the category’s endurance race.

While Taylor has to confirm his next race, the team will next be on show at the Sandown 500 in Melbourne on September 13-15 as part of the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia.

“What a weekend for STM. I had my work cut out for me by racing in two categories,” Taylor explained.

“I didn’t have a good start in the Sprint Challenge, but went extremely well in the second race and average in the third race.

“Then had my mate Paul Morris in the GT Porsche, What a ball. We came out here to have fun and dead set, we had a fantastic time.

“We actually came second at one stage in the race last night in the GT class. It was a whole heap of fun and our fellow competitors were really polite. No one was knocking us out of the way. We were polite back to them. And it turned out good.

“Then we came back today and there weren’t as many safety cars today, so we couldn’t find our way forward. We got penalised a little bit because we won the trophy class yesterday. But what a fantastic weekend.

“What Tony Quinn has done at Queensland Raceway and what SRO has done with the GT class is amazing.”
