Major Breakthrough in Potential at Darwin for Scott Taylor

Coached by former Carrera Cup Champion Alex Davison, Scott Taylor has found a new level of potential thanks to a changed driving style which was implemented at Hidden Valley Raceway.

The gap from Taylor to the main group was notably smaller from the outset in practice one, with his qualifying time just two tenths away from the next car. Race pace was also significantly improved with Taylor actively fighting for spots in the Pro-Am top 10 in the closing stages of all three races.

Race one saw a last lap attempt to claim ninth which ultimately did not pay off with Taylor finishing 11th. The second race brought Taylor’s best result since the Australian Grand Prix with an eighth place finish. In the final race it came down to the final lap once again in the battle for 10th, with Taylor coming up just shy in 11th.

The new driving style sees Taylor moving from his natural left foot braking technique to the right foot method widely used across the top level of all tin-top categories. With the new driving style dialed in at Hidden Valley, Taylor believes he has now unlocked the potential for a new level of speed.

“The weekend was all about getting my right foot braking down and changing my driving style and allowing me to move forward, because I had plateaued with what I had been doing,” said Taylor.

“My inputs to the car as well, it takes a bit to get used to. I came to Darwin not feeling very good about the car and I’m leaving feeling a lot better about it. I have a much better understanding of the car now which I had to change my style to really unlock.”

“With Alex and Ash Seward’s help it will allow me to go forward now. Before this I was starting to have some thoughts about whether I should continue but now I’m learning a different way to drive the car and it’s got so much more speed I can tap into.”

“We came away with no damage to the car, I had great fun racing with the guys around me and I feel like I’ve done a good job this weekend.”

Round four of the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship takes place in Townsville from July 8-10.
